On February 4, 2019, FERC issued a notice that its staff and the Department of Energy (“DOE”) will co-host a technical conference on Security Investments for Energy Infrastructure.  The technical conference will broadly address two main topics.

The first topic will discuss the types of present and emerging cyber and physical security threats to energy infrastructure.  This topic will include an exploration of the factors utilized by the private sector for evaluating energy infrastructure security threats and vulnerabilities, as well as associated challenges.  The topic will also examine cyber and physical security best practices and mitigation strategies.

The second topic will observe ways federal and state authorities can support investments to improve cyber and physical security of energy infrastructure, including an emphasis on federal and state authorities’ current cost recovery policies.

The technical conference will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Meeting Room at FERC headquarters located in Washington, D.C.  FERC will provide further details regarding the conference through issuance of a supplemental notice closer to the conference date.
