Senate Confirms Sally Jewell as Secretary of the Interior

On April 10, 2013, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Sarah “Sally” Jewell to be Secretary of the Interior.  On February 7, 2013, President Obama nominated Ms. Jewell to replace outgoing Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.  Ms. Jewell had a confirmation hearing before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on March 7, 2013. President Obama Announces Nominations for EPA and DOE Positions

On March 4, 2013, President Barrack Obama announced the nominations of Gina McCarthy for Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”), and Ernest Moniz for Secretary of the Department of Energy (“DOE”).  If confirmed, Ms. McCarthy will replace Administrator Lisa Jackson, while Dr. Moniz will succeed Secretary Steven Chu. Obama Announces Eight New Members of Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board

Obama Nominates Svinicki to Second NRC Term

On May 8, 2012, President Obama nominated Kristine Svinicki (R) to a second five-year term on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (“NRC”).  Svinicki’s current term is set to expire on June 30, and several Republican Members of Congress are asking for a speedy confirmation.  However, this nomination may be opposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).
